Asylum Seekers and Refugees AIDS Group (ASERAG) is a private, non profit organization founded by asylum seekers and GGD Groningen in 2002. Aserag focuses its activities on preventing sexually transmitted infections including HIV by using:
- Drama performances combined with the training of asylum seekers;
- Peer educators and HIV-counsellors as the main awareness raising agents;
- Carrying out HIV/STI prevention activities within the asylum seekers community.
Some of the activities organized are bazaars, football matches and information markets. The activities are aimed at raising awareness about Sexual Transmitted Infections (STI’s), including HIV. They also promote voluntary counselling and testing for HIV. Aserag is momentarily tasked by Soa Aids Nederland with the task to carry out STI and HIV prevention among asylum seekers.
